Yara Shahidi May Be Starring in ‘black-ish’ Spinoff Following Her Character to College

black-ish may be expanding its brand. Deadline recently reported that they learned ABC is looking to spin off its acclaimed family comedy with Yara Shahidi’s character.

According to Deadline, the network is working with series creator/executive producer Kenya Barris and ABC Studios on the project, which would be toplined by black-ish co-star Yara Shahidi and focus on her character Zoey Johnson in college. The plan is for the series to be introduced as a backdoor pilot during an  episode on black-ish this spring. Sources stress that talks for the spinoff are still in very early stages, with no script and deals in place.

This is literally a chance for a new generation version of A Different World. A Different World is the hit show that spun off of The Cosby Show originally following Denise Huxtable’s time at the fictional college Hillman.

Television is craving another positive series following carefree, magical and sophisticated Black scholars. This would be an amazing series. Plus Shahidi would be amazing leading a show.

Who’s excited for this potential new show?
