TGIT’s Return Delayed Due To A Presidential Special

The wait is almost over, but is has been extended. Shonda Rhimes’s critically-acclaimed TGIT lineup’s return has been delayed due to Trump special.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the winter premieres of Grey’s Anatomy, How to Get Away with Murder, and the season 6 premiere of Scandal have been pushed a week due to a pre-inauguration 20/20 special airing on ABC News. The one-hour special, America’s First Family: The Trumps Go to Washington, will air at 10 p.m. EST. The special will be preceded by repeats of Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal.

TV Line spoke to Rhimes about the scheduling chance at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. “I just think that ABC does its programming,” Rhimes told TVLine on Tuesday. “I’m not in charge of scheduling. I’m fine with whatever they want to do. It has nothing to do with my job. I stay in my lane.”

TGIT officially returns January 26th at 8pm EST.
