Taraji P. Henson has inked a first-look deal with 20th Century Fox TV and is developing an Empire spinoff based on her larger-than-life character Cookie Lyon.

According to Variety, Henson’s deal coincides with the launch of her own production company TPH Entertainment. The deal will see Henson and TPH, co-run by Christine Conley, develop projects for the studio across multiple platforms. First up, extending the life of Empire.

As Deadline reports, Henson will star and produce the series. It will be penned and executive produced by Empire co-creator Danny Strong, Stacy A. Littlejohn and Yolonda Lawrence. And Empire vet Sanaa Hamri is set to direct should it be ordered to pilot.

The only details surrounding the potential spinoff thus far is that it “follows what’s next for Cookie.”

“We were lucky to have a front-row seat to Taraji’s meteoric rise as a fixture on television through Empire,” said 20th Century Fox TV president Cassidy Thursday. “Through that relationship, everyone at the company grew to appreciate her passion for storytelling and her strong creative gut instinct. With Empire finished we look forward to helping her explore stories that need to be told through her talent and advocacy.”
