Tamar Braxton Talks K. Michelle, Rihanna’s Grammy Nomination, BFV & More

Tamar Braxton on 105.1

Tamar Braxton sat down with Angie Martinez on Power 105.1 on Monday. She talked about K. Michelle, Rihanna’s Grammy Nomination, Chris Brown, TD Jakes appearing on Braxton Family Values and more.

Tamar Braxton cleared the air and said the first time she met K. Michelle was at the BET Awards. “We’re not homies. We’re just cordial. There’s no beef,” said Braxton. She also said that they didn’t really have any conversations prior to the stage which is why she decided to apologize on stage live.

Angie asked Tamar about her next album Calling All Lovers that is slated to drop on 9/11. Tamar said the date is fitting because of what the album represents, a move to love. That led them into talking about R&B. Angie brought up how Tyrese recently visited the show discussing how R&B is not treated the same as other genres and the racial disparities that exist in the genre to which Tamar for the most part agreed. Tamar went on to say that Sam Smith isn’t really R&B and that said she had an issue with Rihanna being nominated and winning as a R&B artist.

“I had an issue with Rihanna being nominated at the Grammys for best R&B album. She doesn’t sing R&B music. She’s a pop star… I love her, glad she won,” said Tamar. Angie then asked her what makes something R&B and Tamar explained, “It’s called Rhythm and Blues, ribs and barbecue. It’s not pop pop pop. It’s not that music. It’s soulful. That’s R&B music.” She added that, “Every song of hers (referring to Rihanna) I’ve gotten my complete and utter life to, twerking. I love her. I’m one of her biggest fans, period, but that’s not R&B music.”

Later in the conversation Tamar expressed her gratitude for Bishop TD Jakes appearing on Braxton Family Values. “You know the best thing he told me?” question Tamar. “He told me to stop looking for people to clap for you and clap for yourself. Meaning be proud of yourself.”

During the 14-minute interview, Tamar also discussed her past issue with Chris Brown, Kylie Jenner, the memes made about her after the BET Awards and more. The laid back side of Tamar is cool too. Check out the full interview below:
