“Speaking Up Doesn’t Make Me An Angry Black Woman”

Black women are sometimes plagued as “Angry” whenever they speak up and/or share their opinions and it doesn’t line up with what “mainstream” America thinks. It’s an annoying thing, but it’s true. Some said Viola Davis was an “Angry Black Woman” when she spoke about racial disparities in Hollywood. Some even said First Lady Michelle Obama was an “Angry Black Woman” after her amazing graduation speech at Tuskegee. It’s a shame that this happens, but the worst part is that a lot of people don’t even realize that race is playing a role in how they view these amazing women. The latest person to be publicly tagged with playing the “Angry Black Woman” is the songstress Tamar Braxton.

Tamar Braxton recently released another studio album, Calling All Lovers. She is also currently touring, co-hosting” The Real”, and participating in “Dancing With The Stars”. A lot of people have been viewing her “question asking” as rude. She has been called name after name. She’s smiling, sharing personal parts of her life, out dancing just about everyone, but she’s not being quiet and just doing what everyone wants her to. That makes her intolerable?

Many people have been commenting on the response to Tamar on DWTS, but Tamar weighed in herself: “I am successful, a MOTHER, a daughter, a wife and the only BLACK person on 4 networks at the same time!!! How rude and ANGRY could I be!! I will NOT let you or anyone else make me out to be that because I have an opinion. I know how to be a professional and FYI.. My soul is NOT for sale!!”

It seems like every time someone slings the term “Angry Black Woman,” they need to be saying “Strong Black Queen.” Kudos to you Tamar! Keep being amazing! Check out Tamar’s full post below:

If I wasn't a reality television producer I would feel like this would be true just because someone said this to me. That fact is that is that "I am not an angry black woman"God has blessed me beyond measure! I have nothing to complain about!! And I will NOT bow down to the racist, sarcastic, foolish things that come out of ones MOUTH just because it's EASY to depict me as the LOUD mouth black girl with an attitude!! I am successful, a MOTHER, a daughter, a wife and the only BLACK person on 4 networks at the same time!!! How rude and ANGRY could I be!! I will NOT let you or anyone else make me out to be that because I have an opinion. I know how to be a professional and FYI.. My soul is NOT for sale!!✌?️
