With Tracee Ellis Ross cohosting the BET Awards, is this the perfect time to expect a huge announcement about Girlfriends? Girlfriends was the hit show created by Mara Brock Akil starring Tracee Ellis Ross, Jill Marie Jones, Golden Brooks, Persia White and Reggie Hayes. And it’s about time the show gets a proper ending!
Fans have been patiently waiting for Joan to get married Aaron, Lynn to get her music career, Maya and Darnell to adopt a baby, William and Monica to have their baby, and for the grand return of Toni Childs. Girlfriends went off the air in 2008! It’s been 7 years, but fans still want closure. The last season of Girlfriends was potentially setting up to give fans everything they’d been waiting for, including the return of the infamous Toni.
Wetpaint Entertainment recently caught up with Golden Brooks who said all the original cast members are definitely down to do a reunion.
“But, did Tracee, Jill, Persia, Reggie all meet Mara and talk about it? Absolutely. We are in talks about it. I don’t know, we’ll have to check everyone’s schedules, have Mara write a script,” she dished. “I mean, but there is this whole resurgence of you know, making shows into movies and doing sequels, like The Best Man and that kind of thing, so I do think it’s a strong possibility. I can’t speak for Mara, but I definitely think it’s positive.”
Persia White also retweeted a link in support of a Girlfriends Movie which told supporters to contact CBS TV Studios.
Jill Marie Jones also kept the Girlfriends flame burning when she posted a dubsmash on her Instagram account of her covering Toni Childs.
It has been far to long since we’ve seen one of the greatest Black shows on TV. Hopefully we get some hint about a Girlfriends Movie during the BET Awards. If not an announcement of a movie, maybe it’ll be added to Netflix so it’s ratings can prove worthy of a movie.
In the age where shows as old as Full House are coming back, Girlfriends’ fans are still waiting to know when their girls will be back! The fans are not done yet Sistas! We still want more!
