Ryan Coogler Locked in to Write and Direct ‘Black Panther’ Sequel

Ryan Coogler is heading back to Wakanda. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the filmmaker behind Marvel’s landmark Black Panther has quietly closed a deal to write and direct the sequel.

Black Panther, centering on Chadwick Boseman’s character T’Challa, the newly crowned king of the fictional African country Wakanda, dominated the box office. Grossing $700 million domestically and more than $1.3 billion worldwide, Black Panther is a cultural and global phenomenon.

Chadwick Boseman and the rest of the all-star cast are expected to return for the sequel.

Coogler, who wrote and directed Black Panther, is expected to begin writing the sequel next year and begin production in either late 2019 or early 2020.
