Rihanna and Lupita N’yongo Fan Concept Movie Written By Issa Rae and Directed Ava DuVernay Has Been Greenlighted

Dreams do apparently come true. According to multiple sources, a fan concept movie staring Rihanna and Lupita N’yongo written by Issa Rae and directed by Ava DuVernay is happening.

According to Entertainment Weekly, after a dramatic negotiation session at the Cannes Film Festival, Netflix nabbed a film project pairing Grammy winner Rihanna with Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o. Issa Rae will be writing the script and Ava DuVernay will be directing.

As aforementioned, the concept for the movie started off as a tweet, but when the Rihanna, N’yongo and Rae joined in on the fun, it quickly became a possibility. Check out part of their twitter exchange below:

Issa Rae’s team confirmed to Vanity Fair that the project is in the works, adding that the original Twitter users who imagined the concept for this film will be credited and included in some form. DuVernay sent out the following confirmatory tweet about the fan-inspired movie:

The project is in the early stages. Production is speculated to begin in 2018.
