Morris Chestnut is returning to Fox. The Rosewood vet is joining the network’s medical drama The Resident for its third season.

Chestnut will be joining the critically-acclaimed series as a series regular. He is set to play Dr. Barrett Cain, an “intimidating neurosurgeon.”

According to TV Line, Chestnut’s character is hired by Red Rock Medical to help turn around Chastain Park Memorial’s finances. He believes himself to be a “superman physician” who is “capable of curing crippling diseases. He’s charming when he wants to be,” but is “utterly ruthless in his quest for money and power. His ability to exact swift revenge on any who oppose him will put the good doctors at Chastain in jeopardy and drive the season-long thriller arc.”

Dr. Cain will fit right in with the affects of Red Rock Mountain Medical takeover.

Per Deadline in the upcoming season, the doctors will all be faced with their hardest fight yet against the corrupting influence of money in health care. As each new case enters the hospital, this justice league of courageous young physicians will put their futures and careers on the line to stop “profit over patients.”

The Resident returns on Tuesday, September 24th 8/7c. The show will lead into the final season of Empire. – Congrats to Morris Chestnut!
