#LaughingWhileBlack Ladies Win Multi-Million Dollar Settlement

Last August the ladies of Sistahs on the Reading Edge became a viral sensation after being kicked off of a Napa Valley Wine train for allegedly being “too loud.” Not long after the women were put off of the train, #LaughingWhileBlack took over the internet. Headline after headline accused the train line of racial bias and racial profiling. It appears that the ladies have now reached a multi-million dollar settlement.

According to The Mercury News, the 11 women, 10 of whom were black, sought $11 million in damages in their lawsuit filed in October, claiming the ejection on Aug. 22 stemmed from racial bias and caused two plaintiffs to lose their jobs. The two parties went into private mediation and reached an amicable settlement on Thursday, said Waukeen McCoy, the attorney who represents the plaintiffs. The settlement amount is confidential, he said.

Congratulations to the ladies on their settlement. Hopefully the money comes in some Tubman 20s.
