Kanye West has reportedly made big donations to the families of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery and Black-owned businesses.
According to TMZ, West has donated over $2 million dollars thus far. He’s set up a 529 college savings fund to fully cover tuition for Floyd’s 6-year-old daughter Gianna. He’s also covering the legal costs for the Arbery and Taylor families.
West has also reportedly made several donations to Black-owned businesses in his hometown of Chicago and other cities nationwide that have been impacted by America’s current pandemics: COVID-19 and white supremacy.
West is among the celebrities who’ve been criticized for remaining quiet amid the outcry in response to the recent Black deaths at the hands of systemic racism. He’s been criticized particularly because of his polarizing position to the Black community.
The Grammy-winning rapper has adamantly shared his support for the racist, divisive and incomprehensible U.S. president Donald Trump.
While the community is split on supporting West or any of his endeavors because of his support for Trump, it’s safe to say his contributions are appreciated.
