John Legend Could Be The 13th Entertainer on the EGOT List

John Legend is on his way to joining the legendary EGOT list in Hollywood. Having won a Grammy, Oscar and Tony, all Legend needs is an Emmy to join the coveted list, and 2018 may be his year.

Coined in 1984 by Philip Michael Thomas, an EGOT is winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony.

According to People, to date, twelve people have picked up the honor: Richard Rodgers (1962), Helen Hayes (1977), Rita Moreno (1977), John Gielgud (1991), Audrey Hepburn (1994), Marvin Hamlisch (1995), Jonathan Tunick (1997), Mel Brooks (2001), Mike Nichols (2001), Whoopi Goldberg (2002), Scott Rudin (2012), and Robert Lopez (2014).

Legend has previously won a Grammy, Oscar and Tony, and today he picked up an Emmy nomination for his portrayal of Jesus in NBC’s Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert.

Legend started his EGOT journey in 2006 winning three Grammys for Best New Artist, Best R&B Album and Best Male R&B Vocal performance. He’s since won seven more. In 2015, Legend picked up an Oscar for his song “Glory” from the movie Selma. And in 2017, he won a Tony for co-producing the revival of August Wilson’s play, Jitney

His amazing and hilarious wife Chrissy Teigen has been hyping up this goal before he even received a Emmy nomination.

And although her Spike TV Award may have to move if Legend win’s an Emmy, she’s super proud of him anyway.
