“The journey has been incredibly freeing. Because no matter what happens, I have piece of mind of knowing that all of the chatter, the name calling, the doubting, all of it was just noise that did not define me, that didn’t change who I was, and most importantly could not hold me back.” – First Lady Michelle Obama
The FLOTUS delivered a raw, inspiring speech to the Class of 2015 at Tuskegee University. First Lady Obama spoke on racial issues that have been and that continue to divide our country. Throughout the speech, the First Lady mentioned the struggles she and her husband face with him being the first Black president. In it’s entirety, the speech was amazing; however, the backlash is surprising and not surprising at the same time.
The negative responses to her speech speak exactly to the points she was making. America was not set up to enhance the lives of the minority and those racial tensions tethered to the founding of our country still exist today. Until WE can speak about, nothing WILL change. But please don’t let me form your opinion, watch the incredible speech here and then comment your thoughts. Was it inappropriate or is some of America still not ready to hear the truth:
