Dwayne Wade Poses for ESPN’s Body Issue Overcoming Body Insecurities

Miami Heat’s Dwayne Wade recently posed for ESPN’s Body Issue overcoming his body insecurities. ESPN’s Body Issue features athletes that pose naked. The concept is for viewers to admire the vast potential of the human form.

Wade has been asked consistently to pose since the Issue began in 2009, but he’s turned it down every year due to his own insecurities. Dwayne Wade shared with ESPN’s Morty Ain what it meant for him to do the Body Issue.

“To me, doing the Body Issue is bigger than looking at an athlete’s body. It’s more about the story we are telling of overcoming my fear of doing this. I had a fear of being naked in front of others and a fear of being judged. So to me, overcoming that is the biggest thing. Someone may look at me and think, ‘Why would you have insecurity?’ Well, this is real life and I’m human, and these are the things that I deal with that many others might deal with.”

Wade hinted that he had to become comfortable being naked in front of his wife Gabrielle Union. “People might think it’s simple, but for me it was hard to even feel comfortable walking around naked when it’s just me and my wife. So the thought of doing it at a photo shoot in front of people [laughs] — it was like, ‘No way ever.'”

His wife Gabrielle Union seems to be here for cover.

Dwayne Wade’s cover of ESPN’s Body Issue hits the stands on July 8th. Congratulations on overcoming your insecurities.
