Christian Taylor, 19-Year-Old College Football Player, Fatally Shot by Police

Christian Taylor

A 19-year-old young unarmed Black man was fatally shot by police in Arlington, Texas. Christian Taylor was killed after an altercation with police officers. Taylor reportedly crashed into a local car dealership in Texas.

According to The Dallas Morning News, the dealership’s security company reported the break-in after its cameras recorded a man there after hours, police said. Sgt. Paul Rodriguez said a burglar drove a sport utility vehicle through the dealership showroom’s glass doors. When police arrived they found Taylor in the showroom and approached him. Police said Miller shot Taylor after an “altercation.” Taylor died at the scene, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office.

Taylor has unfortunately joined the countless unarmed Black people who have died over the years from the hands of a trigger happy officer. Christian Taylor was a football player at Angelo State University. He was also a recent graduate of Mansfield Summit High School. He recently visited with his old coach, Travis Pride, who informed The Dallas Morning News of their recent conversation.

“He told me that he thought he’d have an opportunity to start,” Pride said. “He was ready to get back. He loved the coaches, loved the program. All signs were pointed to go, for him to go get things done.”

The police officer, Brad Miller, who shot Taylor had only been with the Arlington Police Department since September. Before joining, Miller had no police experience. He recently graduated from the police Academy in March, and he had no commendation or discipline record with the department. At the time of the shooting he was in field training and under the supervision of a police training officer.

Last week Christian Taylor tweeted the tweet below: (this is so sad)

It’s very tragic and unfortunate that this occurred. Officer Miller has been placed on administrative leave, and an investigation is being launched. The bottom line however is that Taylor should not have ended up dead. We will continue to update you on this case.
