Why Most Don’t Want the Charmed Reboot to Happen

It’s been confirmed. A Charmed reboot is officially in the works. The executive producer of the critically-acclaimed television series Jane The Virgin will be running the new show. According to TV Line, The CW ordered a one-hour pilot script that is being billed as a prequel-ish reimagining of the beloved WB original.

This means that Shannen Doherty, Holly Marie Combs, Alyssa Milano, and Rose McGowan who respectively played Prue, Piper, Phoebe and Paige (Matthews) Halliwell will have no connection to the show. The women who played the most powerful witches of all time, The Charmed Ones, made the show what it is.

The show runs weekly on TNT, and it is watched frequently on Netflix. It’s hard to imagine that The CW believes a reboot without any ties to the original characters will work. Even after a decade, the show is too popular for the network to continue without the original legacy of Charmed. Their fandom still wants a revival.

CW President Mark Pedowitz provided some clarity on the new series at the Television Critics Association’s press tour. “At this point, it’s a self-contained, self-sustaining show,” Pedowitz said. “In terms of whether the [original] characters or actresses will come into the series, we’ll see what happens as the series goes on. That’s to be determined. At this time, there is the Power of Three element in there, but at this time it’s a stand-alone, separate show.”

Combs, Milano and McGowan posted on social media about the reboot.

Hopefully The CW gets the memo. This is a no.
