Beyoncé’s love letter to Africa The Lion King: The Gift debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 chart.
The Afrocentric ode to The Lion King saw 54,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. (with 11,000 of that sum in album sales) in the week ending July 25, according to Nielsen Music.
Ed Sheeran’s album No. 6 collaboration project maintained the number one slot for a second week with 78,000 equivalent album units.
According to Billboard, The Lion King: The Gift marks Beyoncé’s ninth top 10 effort on the Billboard 200 as a soloist, and second new top 10 of 2019, following Homecoming: The Live Album (a debut at No. 4, May 4).
She is the second artist after rapper Future to land two new project in the top 10 in 2019. And she’s the first artist in 2019 to have three projects visit the Top 10.
Her critically-acclaimed 2016 project Lemonade reentered the top 10 at No. 9 in April following its wide streaming release. The album had previously only be available to stream on Tidal.
