The Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin Has Died at 76

Aretha Franklin’s publicist has confirmed that the Queen of Soul died today in her home at the age of 76.

According to the Associated Press, Publicist Gwendolyn Quinn said through a family statement that Franklin passed Thursday at 9:50 a.m. at her home in Detroit.

The statement said “Franklin’s official cause of death was due to advance pancreatic cancer of the neuroendocrine type, which was confirmed by Franklin’s oncologist, Dr. Philip Phillips of Karmanos Cancer Institute” in Detroit.

The family added: “In one of the darkest moments of our lives, we are not able to find the appropriate words to express the pain in our heart. We have lost the matriarch and rock of our family.”

Reports of her being gravely ill broke this week, but news of her laughing and being full of spirit lead some to believe she may pull through.

Sending our LOVing and R-E-S-P-E-C-Ting prayers up for her family, loved ones and to all those who loved the Queen.
