Why Did ABC Cancel New Show Uncle Buck?

ABC’s new show Uncle Buck based off of the fictional 1989 feature film starring John Candy has been cancelled. The show which snuck its way into the hearts of millions will now join the wasteland of shows cancelled too soon.

Actor James Lesure who plays Buck’s brother first confirmed the news with a tweet thanking fans for allowing the cast to entertain them.

ABC later confirmed the news. According to the Chicago Tribune, just an hour before word came of the cancellation, ABC issued a press release touting ratings for the series, which averaged 3.8 million total viewers in Nielsen live-plus-same day numbers, an 81% lift from ABC’s performance in the same time period over the course of the same four weeks a year ago. Uncle Buck also averaged a 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demo, more than double ABC’s average from a year earlier.

Uncle Buck was suppose to be our summer black-ish! It was starting to look like we were going to get options.

Something isn’t adding up. Ratings go up and we cancel shows now ABC?
