Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar Open 2016 BET Awards with “Freedom”

Beyoncé has finally returned to the BET Awards. She opened the annual award show with “Freedom” from her critically-acclaimed album Lemonade. Bey annihilated the opening with an assist from Kendrick Lamar.

The 2016 BET Awards was a clear statement of Black Power, and her song choice was perfect for the overarching feeling of “being awake” felt throughout the show. “Freedom” was the right song to open the show. Her entire album is full of “woke” songs. If you haven’t listened to Lemonade for the lyrics, you are missing out on tons of inspirational anthems.

The care free nature Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar presented on stage was breathtaking. Their performance was so much deeper than just hopping around the stage. Check it out below:
