And we rejoice in Black Girl Magic. Stacey Abrams, who ran as a Democratic candidate for Georgia governor in 2018, will deliver the Democratic response to President Trump’s State of the Union Address on Tuesday, February 5.
The news was first reported by MSNBC’s Chris Hayes before being confirmed by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.
“I’m very excited that’s she agreed to be the respondent to the President and the State of the Union,” said Schumer.
Abrams narrowly lost the Georgia 2018 gubernatorial race (that was filled with voter suppression) to her republican rival Brian Kemp. But she’s not going anywhere soon.
The response to the SOTU is a speech that can make or break a rising political star, but Stacey Abrams is sure to come out shining brighter.
