Moonlight Takes Three Oscars At The Academy Awards

Moonlight scored big at the 89th Academy Awards on Sunday, February 26. The film won three awards.

Mahershala Ali kicked off the big night for the film winning an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. Ali became the fifth Black actor to win the award, and the first Muslim to win an Oscar.

After Ali’s win, Barry Jenkins and Tarrell Alvin McCraney won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay.

Then at the end of the awards show, Moonlight won Best Picture in a surprising twist. La La Land was mistakingly announced as the winner, but in the end, the award went to the right film.

The Oscars overall was a huge night for minorities. And Moonlight winning the award for Best Picture says a lot about the Academy. Congratulations to Jenkins and the entire cast and crew!
