It’s official. Katy Perry has been confirmed as judge for ABC’s American Idol reboot. According to People, ABC announced Perry as a member of the new judging panel at the ABC upfront on Tuesday.
ABC recently announced that they picked up American Idol, and there has been consistent chatter about who will host and who will be the judges. While Perry is the only confirmed judge, the panel is speculated to star-studded.
In a statement released by the network, Perry says she’s honored and thrilled. “I am honored and thrilled to be the first judge bringing back the American Idol tradition of making dreams come true for incredible talents with authentic personalities and real stories. I’m always listening to new music, and love discovering diamonds in the rough – from mentoring young artists on my label, or highlighting new artists on my tours, I want to bring it back to the music.”
American Idol is slated to premiere on ABC’s 2017-2018 season.
