Will Smith and Jay Z are reuniting to produce an Emmett Till Miniseries on HBO.
Emmet Till was only 14 while visiting family in Mississippi back in 1955 when he allegedly “flirted” with a White woman, Carolyn Bryant, at a grocery store. A few nights later, Bryant’s husband Roy and his half-brother went to Till’s great-uncle’s house. They took him and brutally tortured him before shooting him in the head and throwing his body in a river.
The case sparked outrage across the country, and while it is still extremely sensitive, his story is being told more and more.
According to Deadline, the miniseries will reportedly run approximately 6 hours. There are currently no writers attached to the project.
There are multiple projects going on about the life of Emmett Till. Chaz Elbert is producing a movie on the story of his life as well.
We are at a pivotal point in our country. Hopefully these projects will bring more awareness so there will be less Trayvon Martins, Michael Browns, and Eric Garners.
Bryant Smith is the founder and owner of The Top Tea.
